Expanded Clay Pebbles
These coarse fired-clay pebbles provide a stable, open growing medium with spaces between the particles. Their size is useful for reservoirs, terrarium false bottoms and larger hydroponic containers.
Use in water-based growing
Rinse the pebbles thoroughly. In hydroponic and semi-hydroponic pots, set the reservoir level for the system and supply appropriate dissolved nutrients; the clay itself does not feed the plant.
Outside a nursery pot
A few pebbles in a cachepot can raise a drainage-holed inner pot above collected water. Empty the cachepot after watering.
Particle size matters
Very small rooted cuttings may need a finer medium for good contact. Pebbles beneath dense potting soil do not solve slow drainage inside that soil.
