Everyday Potting Soil Mix

Everyday Potting Soil Mix is a ready-to-use general growing medium for common soil-grown houseplants.

• Main use: routine repotting of established foliage plants that suit a general potting mix.
• Texture: intended to provide moisture contact while remaining loose enough for standard container roots.
• Adjustments: use perlite or bark through the mix when a particular plant needs more air.
• Nutrition: do not rely on an assumed fertiliser formula or fixed feeding duration; use the appropriate plant food when required.
• Check the finished pot for moisture at root depth, and adjust any added structure to the plant.

• Prepare the plant: gently remove the plant from its old pot and brush away only loose, spent soil. Keep healthy roots and the stable root ball intact.
• Check the roots: remove loose old soil by hand and trim dead or rotten roots with clean scissors. Rinse only if the old mix is compacted, contaminated or difficult to remove safely.
• Trim dead leaves: cut off dead or damaged foliage with clean scissors so the plant can focus on fresh growth.
• Set up the new pot: choose a container with drainage holes and add enough Potting Soil Mix so the root ball sits at the right height.
• Position the plant: place the plant in the centre, spreading roots out gently; the point where roots meet the stem should sit slightly below the rim.
• Backfill with soil: fill around the root ball with fresh Potting Soil Mix, covering roots completely and leaving a watering rim of about 2 cm at the top.
• Settle the substrate: lightly press the mix to remove major air pockets without compacting it too much.
• Water thoroughly: water until excess runs from the drainage holes so soil can settle around the roots and make close contact.

A general-purpose potting soil can be adapted when the growing conditions or the plant require a different texture.

• Tropical foliage plants: add suitable bark or perlite through the full potting mix when more root-zone air is needed.
• Moisture-loving plants: assess the root zone before adding anything that holds more water.
• Dry-adapted plants: use a species-appropriate mineral mix; ordinary soil may stay wet too long.
• Feeding: apply a suitable plant fertiliser according to the product label and plant growth. No fixed initial nutrient charge is claimed.
• Aftercare: check pot drainage, root size, light and actual drying speed before changing the recipe.
