Sphagnum moss
Sphagnum is a fibrous moss that holds substantial moisture around stems and emerging roots. Loose fibres are useful in propagation containers, moss poles and humid terrarium planting.
For cuttings and aerial roots
Arrange the moss loosely around nodes or inside a pole. Keep it damp without compressing it into a wet block, and allow some air exchange.
Preparation depends on delivery condition
If the moss arrives dry, moisten it fully and squeeze away the excess. If it is already damp, loosen the fibres and check their moisture before use.
Nutrition and acidity
Sphagnum is naturally low in nutrients and its acidity varies by product. Avoid assuming all sphagnum is pH-neutral. Refresh it if fibres break down or develop a sour smell.
